Dennis Hayes

Dennis Hayes is Professor of Education at the University of Derby (from September 2009) and a visiting professor at Oxford Brookes University.   Dennis is known for his educational journalism and is a member of the editorial board of the Times Higher Education magazine. He was a ‘Backchat’ columnist for 'FE Focus' in the Times Educational Supplement. In 2006-7, he was the first joint president of the University and College Union, the largest post-compulsory education union in the world. Dennis is the SCETT representative on the council of the Institute for Learning (IfL).

Dennis was the chair of the Standing Committee for the Education and Training of Teachers (SCETT) in 2006 and 2007, and played a leading role in its re-launch as a major voice in teacher education representing through its constituent members 750,000 teachers. He is a Council member of the Institute for Learning (IfL).Dennis is the author or editor of many books including: The McDonaldization of Higher Education (2002); The RoutledgeFalmer Guide to Key Debates in Education (2004); Teaching and Training in Post-Compulsory Education (2007); A Lecturer’s Guide to Further Education (2007) and The Dangerous Rise of Therapeutic Education (2008, co-authored with Kathryn Ecclestone).
